Pass The Bottle

Praise the lord and pass the bottle.
The brake’s worn out but hold down that throttle.
This old Ford don’t handle like she oughtta.
Say a prayer and we’ll make it home alright.
I went to a honky tonk last evenin’
But the barkeep there she called me a damn heathen.
Stumbled out as I was leavin’
Said a prayer and I made it home alright.
Praise the lord and pass the bottle.
The brake’s worn out but hold down that throttle.
This old Ford don’t handle like she oughtta.
Say a prayer and we’ll make it home alright.
I went to church on Sunday mornin’
And the preacher said take this here as a warnin’
For the rapture is soon upon us
And sweet Jesus will rain vengeance from the sky.
Praise the lord and pass the bottle.
The brake’s worn out but hold down that throttle.
This old Ford don’t handle like she oughtta
Say a prayer and we’ll make it home alright.
Repeat chorus 2 x

Sadie G

Sadie G, Oh, Sadie G
What have you done to me?
You smiled at me and talked so sweet
And then you brought me to my knees.
You broke my heart in two when you said we could never be.
Sadie G, Oh, Sadie G
What have you done to me?
The first time that I saw you
I got all choked up inside.
The second time I saw you
I vowed you’d be my bride…
But the third time that i saw you was the time I almost died
It tore me all to pieces when we said our last goodbye
And all I ever seem to do is think about you
And thinkin’ makes me wanna drink.
If I wind up in the gutter
Ain’t no tellin’ how low I’ll sink.
Well, a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do
Just to keep a woman off his mind
But Sadie G, Oh, Sadie G
You’re takin’ your sweet time.
Sadie G, Oh, Sadie G
You better lay off that moonshine.
Sadie, baby, better take it on back…
Take it back to Carolina.
The way you’re built there ain’t no doubt
You are a rounder’s dream
But it ain’t no use to court you
Cause you’re just too doggone mean.
Love’s made a fool of me.
Every time I try to kiss you
You try to cause a scene.
You will. You won’t.
You do. You don’t.
You beat all I’ve ever seen.
Pardon me, Miss Sadie G
but won’t you let my poor heart be
Cause all I ever seem to do is think about you
And thinkin’ makes me wanna drink.
If I wind up in the gutter
Ain’t no tellin’ how low I’ll sink.
Well, a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do
Just to keep a woman off his mind
But Sadie G, Oh, Sadie G
You’re takin’ your sweet time.
Sadie G, Oh, Sadie G
You’re takin’ your sweet time.
Sadie G, Oh, Sadie G
You’re takin’ your sweet time.
Mama, take your own sweet time.

Manteo Jail

I spent last night at the Manteo jail
For a woman’s lies but it’s just as well
That we said goodbye
And now I’m rollin’ down that road alone.
When you’ve been locked up in the Manteo jail
and you find out that her heart’s for sale
There ain’t nothing you can do
but try to make it on your own.
Now I’m chasing’ those white lines
And I ain’t looking back this time
‘cause I’m on my way.
It’s a sordid tale that I know all too well.
How she had me locked up in the Manteo Jail
While she and her new boy
Hit the town like it was going out of style.
When you’ve been locked up in the Manteo Jail
And your heart is heavy and you feel like hell.
You’re just counting the hours,
Waiting on the sun to shine
Now I’m chasing’ those white lines
And I ain’t looking back this time
‘cause I’m on my way.
I spent two nights in the Manteo jail
For a woman’s lies but it’s just as well
That we said goodbye
And now I’m rollin’ down that road alone.
When you’ve been locked up in the Manteo Jail
And your heart is heavy and you feel like hell.
You’re just counting the hours,
Praying for the sun to shine
Now I’m chasing’ those white lines
And I ain’t looking back this time
‘cause I’m on my way.

Northern Lights & Blackberry Wine
Copyright 2019 Mike Norris Music
There are angels and devils out here on the road.
They bless you and tempt you
And bargain for your soul.
When the night is black as coal tar
And it’s much too dark to see…
The angels and the devils
Look a lot like you and me
Cause the world is half-crazy
And we’re travelin’ blind
And it’s hard to know who
Your true friends are sometimes…
But not you and I, Girl
We’re two of a kind…
Like northern lights and blackberry wine.
These broken pieces of my soul
Somehow got left behind…
All my dreams like faded road signs
In the rear view of my mind.
It’s been a hell of a ride
And I just can’t lie
And claim i never got my turn.
I pray someday I can make amends
For the bridges I have burned.
Cause the world is half-crazy
And we’re travelin’ blind
And it’s hard to know who
Your true friends are sometimes…
But not you and I, Girl
We’re two of a kind…
Like northern lights and blackberry wine.
Memories of long lost friends
Bring teardrops to my eyes…
Brothers and sisters
Much too soon to say goodbye.
Feel the presence of the ones we love.
They are here with us tonight.
Raise your cup and fire it up
And we’ll have ourselves a good ol’ time
Cause the world is half-crazy
And we’re travelin’ blind
And it’s hard to know who
Your true friends are sometimes…
But not you and I, Girl
We’re two of a kind…
Like northern lights and blackberry wine.
Cause the world is half-crazy
And we’re travelin’ blind
And it’s hard to know who
Your true friends are sometimes…
But not you and I, Girl
We’re two of a kind…
Like northern lights and blackberry wine.
Like northern lights and blackberry wine.

Charlottesville
Copyright 2019 Mike Norris Music
Strangers came to our little mountain town
With hearts of rage they waved their torches all around
But the others were waiting there
Who came to hate them just the same
And blood spilled on the streets
And blood spilled in his name…
Well, I wonder what old Robert E. Lee would say
If he was there in Charlottesville that day.
Would he say, “Hell son, we lost that war a long long time ago
And all our boys who fought before
Are nothing more than ghosts…
May the Lord redeem our mortal souls
As we walk this crooked road…the road from here…
The road from Charlottesville.”
They shouted, “Tear his statue down”
But that wound just would not heal.
They swore the pain would never again
Reign over Charlottesville
But that day the devil tricked them
And it looked like he would win…
Never again…never again…
Well, I wonder what old Robert E. Lee would say
If he was there in Charlottesville that day.
Would he say, “Hell son, we lost that war a long long time ago
And all our boys who fought before
Are nothing more than ghosts…
May the Lord redeem our mortal souls
As we walk this crooked road…the road from here…
The road from Charlottesville.”
Look away…
Lord don’t look away from Charlottesville.

Earthbound Blues
Copyright 2019 Mike Norris Music
Well, I’ve been diagnosed with the symptoms
Of this sickness that we never mention.
I want change, I need redemption.
Come and wash my sins away
In the Summer rain
Cause I know i won’t be saved
from the hungry ground.
I ‘m a star earthbound.
I’ve counted up the cost
of every rusty nail that holds me to this cross.
My soul is weary. Put the fire to my blood.
Give me the courage to somehow rise above
Cause I know i won’t be saved
from the hungry ground.
I ‘m a star earthbound.
Hitched a ride along the way…
Rode with sinners and with saints,
All the kings and clowns.
They’re all headed down.
We are stars earthbound
Now I ain’t so concerned with my condition.
Since i found out what I’ve been missin’.
Stop and look around.
Shut up and listen.
Find your joy in life while you still can.
Cause I know i won’t be saved
from the hungry ground.
I ‘m a star earthbound.
A derelict of grace
Lost outside of heaven’s gate
And it’s a long way down.
I’m a star earthbound.

Burn
Copyright 2019 Mike Norris Music
The devil drove up in a black Dodge Charger
And he read me my rights.
He said, you’ve been on the run for too long, son…
But now I’ve got you in my sights.
Now I’m sure the Magistrate will be more than happy
To put you up at the inn for the night.
You can tell it to the Judge in the morning’, boy.
Yeah, we’ll let him decide.
Someday, you’re gonna learn.
Someday, you’re gonna learn.
You can’t go on like this or you’re gonna burn.
Now how does a poor redneck boy like me
Fit into the Master’s plan,
Just another wayward soul adrift at sea
In need of a guiding hand.
Now I’m damned if I do
And I’m damned if I don’t
And I’m damned if you say I am.
Lord, have mercy on this outlaw
Who is born cursed in sin…
For he is only a man.
Someday, I’m gonna learn.
Someday, I’m gonna learn.
I can’t go on like this or I’m gonna burn.
Someday, you’re gonna learn.
Someday, you’re gonna learn.
You can’t go on like this or you’re gonna burn.
Someday, I’m gonna learn.
Someday, I’m gonna learn.
I can’t go on like this or I’m gonna burn.

Talk To Me Hank
Copyright 2019 Mike Norris Music
Hank, I know you’ve been through it.
I heard you sing a song
About a low down woman
Out to do a good man wrong.
Maybe in the morning
I hope I see the light
But Hank, I gotta make it through tonight.
Talk to me Hank
And tell me what to do.
Tell me how to shake these lonesome blues.
I swear that little honky tonkin’ angel of mine.
She got me on my knees.
She stays out all night long
But she never comes ‘round to see me.
If you see her in heaven
Just a riding on a breeze.
Tell my baby please, please, please.
Talk to me Hank
And tell me what to do.
Tell me how to shake these lonesome blues.

Dead Man’s Waltz
Copyright 2019 Mike Norris Music
The autumn leaves had started to change color
On the day that we exchanged our wedding vows
In a pauper’s chapel by the harbor
Down the street in our hometown…
And i swore that day my heart would be
Onto your heart forever bound
Though someday soon the undertaker comes for me
To lay my body down in the cold hard ground.
The Sheriff came with your restraining order…
He said it might be best if i left town
But there ain’t no Judge here in Hyde County
Who can hold my spirit now…
And though you can’t sleep,
Though you moan and weep…
You know I’ll still be coming’ round
To dance with my darlin’ in the pale moonlight,
Just like the night you shot your lover down.
And though you can’t sleep,
Though you moan and weep…
You know I’ll still be coming’ round
To dance with my darlin’ in the pale moonlight,
Just like the night you shot your lover down.
Just like the night you shot your lover down.

The Good Life Is Gonna Kill Me Someday
Copyright 2019 Mike Norris Music
I’m sunburnt. I’m hungover
But it’s Saturday night and the party ain’t over.
These good times were never meant to last
So I better get it while I still got the chance
Because the good life is gonna kill me someday.
You can dance all night
But the fiddler’s still got to be paid.
The good life is gonna kill me someday
But I got time to sleep when I’m lyin’ in my grave.
I went home, tried to get some rest
But my friends come over and drug me out of bed.
They said you don’t know what you been missin’.
There’s a big fish out there swimmin’
And the good life is gonna kill me someday.
You can dance all night
But the fiddler’s still got to be paid.
The good life is gonna kill me someday
But I got time to sleep when I’m lyin’ in my grave.
The good life is gonna kill me someday.
You can dance all night
But the fiddler’s still got to be paid.
The good life is gonna kill me someday
But I got time to sleep when I’m lyin’ in my grave.
I got time to sleep when I’m six feet in my grave.

Farewell Song
Copyright 2019 Mike Norris Music
I wouldn’t let it get to me. I won’t lie.
I hit the bottle hard and then I cried.
I watched the embers float up to the sky.
I dried my eyes and I tried to say goodbye.
I don’t know what the use is to ask why.
I just replay all the memories in my mind.
We watched the embers float up to the sky.
We dried our eyes and tried to say goodbye.
For what it’s worth
You were an angel on this earth
And now you’re gone
And that’s what hurts.
Fly on angel, fly now up into the by and by
And I will sing your farewell song.
Among the things I’ll cherish from this world…
Summer nights around the bonfire…
We were listening to Merle.
We watched the embers float up to the sky
And we laughed until we cried,
Swore we’d never say goodbye.
For what it’s worth
You were an angel on this earth
And now you’re gone
And that’s what hurts.
Fly on angel, fly now up into the by and by
And I will sing your farewell song.
